London Prepares: Diving

Olympic Park, Stratford

Seeing as I (hopefully) won’t be in London for the Olympics this summer I took the chance to go to see one of the diving events which made up part of the London Prepares series. After getting through the stringent security checks, my friend somewhat hampering this process by forgetting she had a butter knife in her bag – a serious weapon indeed – we were presented with the Aquatics Centre interior.

Although the roof had pleasing undulating contours I wasn’t particularly impressed with the £269m building by Zaha Hadid, my eye caught more en route by the hideous yet fascinating Orbit observational tower by Kapoor & Balmond.

But back to the diving, which was thankfully a lot more impressive. We saw the Men’s Synchronised 10m Platform event, and were not disappointed – the level of skill and execution of the dives were impeccable.

It made me wish I was a proper athlete, alas training for my 5km Swimathon in a few weeks is quite enough.

Here’s an example of the stadard of the diving, amazing!
